Coaching Approaches and Models
This course focuses on the benefits of adopting a coaching style of leadership and management conversation to get the best out of colleagues and to support them in their development. It goes through how a coaching approach fits in with other types of intervention, and how to use models that will support a successful coaching conversation. NB this course is not about becoming a trained coach; it’s about adding skills to your management style toolbox so you can identify how and when you might use a ‘coaching style’ of leadership effectively.

Aims:

To gain an understanding of the coaching continuum and what comprises a coaching approach vs training, mentoring or counselling.

Outcomes:

  • To be able to identify when coaching someone is and is not appropriate or likely to be effective
  • To learn about how coaching models can provide structure for a coaching session, focusing on the FUEL and GROW models
  • To practice using a coaching model to help you plan and give structure to a coaching style conversation
