Nasogastric Tube Feeding in Children

This learning provides an understanding of the underlying knowledge and principles regarding nasogastric tube feeding in children.

Applicable audience	This learning is suitable for learners who work in a health, care or school setting and support children who have additional healthcare needs.
Pre-requisites	There are no pre-requisites required for this learning.
Delivery method	This learning is delivered by a virtual classroom.
Duration	This learning will take 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete and will include a competency document completed in practice.
Materials and resources required	Learners should have access to a computer with an internet connection and Microsoft Teams. A competency document will be provided.
Refresher	This learning should be completed as required.
Minimum/maximum learner numbers	A minimum of 4 and a maximum of 12 learners are required for this learning.

The aim of this learning is to develop learner confidence to carry out safe practice of nasogastric tube feeding for a child/young person as detailed in the workbook and competency document.

Learners will be able to:

Describe the anatomy of the digestive tract
Explain the reasons for nasogastric tube feeding
Identify the risks and potential problems identified with nasogastric tube feeding and to be competent to care for a young person with a nasogastric tube
Explain how to deliver a nasogastric feed as per the child/young persons care plan
