After successfully completing a Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship Level 3 Diploma, you will have several exciting progression options, you can choose to work towards an Assistant Practitioner or Nursing Associate post within your workplace. There are many pathways to explore and could be a stepping stone towards becoming a Nurse Associate or even Registered Nurse with further training.
Apply nowThe Mental Health Support Worker is responsible for providing care and support for individuals with mental ill-health as part of the multi-disciplinary mental health team. They will support individuals, and their families, at different stages of their recovery by listening, providing emotional support, collaboratively developing care plans, implementing them creatively and reviewing them to meet the needs of the individual. The mental health support worker observes and reports changes in mental and physical wellbeing, encouraging independence and enabling individuals to live their life and achieve their goals. Usually, they will have to work closely with carers and with other
organisations, for example in housing and social care.
This qualification consists of mandatory units covering knowledge and skills competencies with optional specialisms which can be combined in flexible ways to reflect the real working context of different learners. The mandatory unit content is listed below, the optional units are designed to meet the requirements of a range of healthcare services and to support the delivery of the Senior Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship standard for England.
The Senior Health Care Support Worker apprenticeship is ideally suited for experienced colleagues who carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare or therapeutic tasks, under the direct or indirect supervision of the registered healthcare practitioner. You may work in a range of services e.g. hospital, community, health or day case unit, someone’s home, nursing or care home, assessment centre, school, prison, GP surgery; working in partnership with individuals, families, carers and other service providers.
As well as on programme assessments there will be an end-point assessment (EPA) which will be carried out by an external independent assessor. This will include a series of assessment elements completed by the apprentice. For an up-to-date assessment plan please visit the Skills England standards page. Each component of end-point assessment is graded with an overall grade and given a fail, pass or distinction.
