The learning covers anaphylaxis and how adrenaline administration is the first line of treatment for serious allergic reactions. Anaphylaxis can come on very quickly, as soon as you suspect anaphylaxis you must use an adrenaline auto-injector (AAI) without delay.

The aim of this learning is to provide an awareness of the signs, symptoms and management of anaphylaxis. The learner will be able to demonstrate the use of the different types of auto-injector.

Learners will be able to:

  • Describe the cause of anaphylactic shock and its treatment
  • Recognise the symptoms of anaphylactic shock
  • Describe the different types of auto-injector
  • Define how and when to call the emergency services to access professional care for the customer
  • Discuss the care procedure for the customer until professional help arrives
