The aim of this learning is to equip the learner with the necessary knowledge and skills to recognise a deteriorating patient and provide safe, timely and appropriate management or treatment, whilst keeping themselves safe.

Learners will be able to:

Describe the A-E approach for the deteriorating patient by utilising the NEWS2 scoring system, observing basic observations and recognising sepsis
Explain the importance of good communication skills, SBAR, ReSPECT and DNACPRs
Summarise local/national policies and procedures and professional responsibilities
