Assessment of Breathing in Children

This learning provides an understanding of the underlying knowledge and principles regarding a respiratory assessment on a child/young person and to take appropriate action.

Applicable audience	This learning is suitable for learners who work in a health, care or school setting and support children who have additional healthcare needs.
Pre-requisites	There are no pre-requisites required for this learning.
Delivery method	This learning is delivered by a virtual classroom.
Duration	This learning will take 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete.
Materials and resources required	Learners should have access to a computer with an internet connection and Microsoft Teams.
Refresher	This learning should be completed as required.
Minimum/maximum learner numbers	A minimum of 4 and a maximum of 12 learners are required for this learning.

The aim of this course is to enable the learner to carry out a thorough respiratory assessment on a child/young person and take appropriate action.

Learners will be able to:

Understand how to take a respiratory assessment on a child/young person
Understand the differences in the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system in children/young people
Carry out a respiratory assessment of the child/young person, applying theory to practice
Understand some of the causes for breathing problems in children/young people
Understand the consequences of breathing problems and be able to respond appropriately
