This learning covers why and how children and young people may become ‘in care’ and the different orders related to this.

The aim of this learning is to raise awareness and understanding of the impact of becoming ‘in care’ on the child or young person, specifically the health needs that can arise from this. The learning also explores the roles and responsibilities of healthcare staff and organisations in meeting the health needs of children in care.

Learners will be able to:

Define the legal framework, national and local policies relating to children in care and their roles and responsibilities in promoting health and wellbeing
Ensure that the delivery of healthcare is child focused, is sensitive to the care child's needs, wishes and feelings and promotes their participation
