This learning explores the term ‘safeguarding children’ and the responsibilities of individuals.

Applicable audience	This learning is suitable for learners who treat or support patients/client/service user’s health and care needs.
Pre-requisites	Learners should be aware of their Safeguarding Policy before completing this learning.
Delivery method	This learning is delivered by an eLearning package.
Duration	This learning will take 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete.
Materials and resources required	Learners should have access to a computer, tablet or smart phone with an internet connection.
Refreher	It is recommended that this learning should be completed every 3 years.

The aim of this learning is to provide an awareness of the term ‘looked after child’ and some of the difficulties these children may face. The learning examines the types of abuse children may face and the impact this can have on them. This learning will consider the processes in place to protect children from harm and explore the importance of correct information sharing.

Learners will be able to:

Know the statutory obligations regarding child safeguarding/ protection and looked after children
Know the importance of being an effective advocate for the child or young person at risk of maltreatment
Understand the normal development of children and young people and how maltreatment may affect this
Identify the nature, types and range of child abuse
Understand the scale and health impact of child maltreatment
Recognise the potential child and parental vulnerability factors that may lead to child maltreatment or neglect
