Learners should have access to a computer, tablet or smart phone with an internet connection.
Refresher

It is recommended that this learning should be completed every 3 years.

The aim of this learning is to provide an awareness of the different categories of child abuse and how to recognise the signs/indicators of these. The learning examines the relevant legislation, processes, policies and procedures that are in place in order to protect children from abuse, neglect and exploitation. This includes exploring the risk factors for children in care.

Learners will be able to:

  • Explore keeping the child at the centre at all times
  • Identify signs of abuse, assessment, referral and escalation
  • Discuss the public health significance of child maltreatment
  • Understand and advise on information-sharing
  • Explore best practice in documentation and record-keeping
  • Examine when Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews would be undertaken
  • Define the impact of child maltreatment on normal child development
