Aims:

This course deals with the fundamentals and principles involved in preventing healthcare-associated infections. You will also learn how you should manage them, and apply your principles of infection control knowledge in practice.

Outcomes:

• Understand how infections can be spread from person to person.
• Explore the practice of good hand hygiene and the affect this can have on preventing the spread of bacteria.
• Know the process of correctly putting on and removing personal protective equipment.
• Explore the methods of correctly disposing of clinical waste.
• Examine how to correctly collect, handle and label specimens.
• Understand your responsibility when it comes to cleaning and decontaminating.
