Applicable audience

This learning is suitable for anyone who may be required to administer basic life support.

Pre-requisites

Learners must be able to fully participate and undertake the practical element of cardio pulmonary resuscitation.

Delivery method

This learning is delivered face-to-face in a classroom.

Duration

The learning will take 3 hours to complete.

Materials and resources required

Learners will need to wear comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear for kneeling down to undertake the practical activity of this learning.

Refresher

This learning should be completed every year.

Minimum/maximum learner numbers

A minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 learners are required for this learning.

The aim of this learning is to to refresh or acquire the knowledge and skills needed to manage a medical emergency in the workplace until more specialised help arrives.​

Learners will be able to:

  • Recognise and manage the deteriorating adult/child using a systematic approach
  • Describe safe management of the unconscious person
  • Describe and demonstrate basic life support using Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation in adults, children and infants
  • Describe and use an Automated External Defibrillator
  • Identify choking in adults, children and infants and manage safely
  • Use of Automated External Defibrillator
  • Describe the cause of anaphylactic reactions and its treatment
