The aim of this learning is to examine the indicators of abuse in both adults and children and explore what to do should you be concerned about an adult or child. The learning will briefly cover intergenerational abuse and how this links to domestic abuse before examining DASH/risk assessments and legal options for support surrounding domestic abuse.

Learners will be able to:

  • Define domestic abuse
  • Examine the signs and symptoms of abuse, and explore how and why victims find it difficult to leave an abusive relationship
  • Explore the myths and realities surrounding domestic abuse
  • Describe the early warning signs in relationships
  • Recognise some of the traits and the psychology of perpetrators of domestic abuse
  • Identify how to support someone who may disclose to you and signposting to other agencies
