This qualification consists of a number of units covering knowledge and skills competencies which can be combined in flexible ways to reflect the real working context of different learners.
The Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship is ideally suited for those who carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare or therapeutic tasks such as checking blood pressure, helping service users with daily activities such as eating, dressing and washing and monitoring overall comfort and wellbeing. This will be under the direct or indirect supervision of the registered healthcare practitioner. You may work in a range of services e.g. hospital, nursing or care home, assessment centre, school, prison or GP surgery and will be working in partnership with individuals, families, carers and other service providers.
As well as on programme assessments there will be an end-point assessment (EPA) which will be carried out by an external independent assessor. This will include a series of assessment elements completed by the apprentice. For an up-to-date assessment plan please visit the IfATE standards page. Each component of end-point assessment is graded with an overall grade and given a fail, pass or distinction.
