To complete pre course eLearning for health module – Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) Prevention in Primary Care and Medicines Management module as relevant to role.

Learners should have access to a computer with an internet connection and Microsoft Teams.

This learning should be completed as required.

Minimum/maximum learner numbers

A minimum of 4 and a maximum of 12 learners are required for this learning.

The aim of this learning is to provide the underpinning theory to safely administer Low Molecular Weight Heparin as part of an individual’s care plan and do so according to a patient specific direction or following the issuing of an individual prescription to the patient by the GP.

Learners will be able to:

  • Discuss the legal and professional issues for HCA and AP's
  • Describe Venous Thrombosis and it's clinical features
  • Describe the types of LMWH products, their action and potential side effects
  • Describe the 5 rights of medication administration
  • How to apply best practice in preparing the patient and obtaining consent
  • Understand the importance of correct infection control procedure and sharps safety
