Learners will be able to:

  • Describe the normal upper respiratory and digestive systems anatomy and physiology
  • Describe the altered anatomy and physiology of a child/young person with a TOF/OA
  • Understand the reasons for coughing/choking episodes after the repair of a TOF/OA
  • Understand the individuals needs and demonstrate the support required during a coughing episode
  • Describe action to be taken if a risk to the child/young person escalates
  • Identify and discuss the child's/young persons understanding and feelings about their coughing episodes
  • Discuss the importance of appropriate documentation, record keeping and information sharing
