This learning covers the principles of fire safety including the impact of fire in the workplace and the risks within a healthcare setting.

Delivery method	This learning is delivered by a virtual classroom.
Duration	This learning will take 2 hours to complete.
Materials and resources required	Learners should have access to a computer with an internet connection and Microsoft Teams.
Refresher	It is recommended that this learning should be completed every year.
Minimum/maximum learner numbers	A minimum of 4 and maximum of 12 learners are required for this training.

The aim of this learning is to provide an awareness of the principles of fire prevention and protection. This learning will explore what hazards can pose a fire risk and the causes of fire. The learning also examines the types of fire detection systems and what you need to consider when escaping from a building/workplace.

Learners will be able to:

Identify fire safety legislation
Recognise fire hazards and how to prevent fire
Define the nature and causes of fire
Understand the behaviour of fire and the risk of fire spread within buildings
Understand how people and buildings are protected from fire and our legal duty to protect ourselves and others
To know how to respond if a fire is discovered, how to respond to a fire alarm and how to safely attack a small fire
Describe staff evacuation principles
Identify the location of extinguishers and escape routes
Describe passive and active fire precautions
Provide an overview of the management of fire safety
