This learning covers the definition of safeguarding children and explores abuse and neglect and the different categories of abuse.

Applicable audience	This learning is suitable for all learners.
Pre-requisites	Learners should be aware of their Safeguarding Policy before completing this learning.
Delivery method	This learning is delivered by an eLearning package.
Duration	This learning will take approximately 25 minutes to complete.
Materials and resources required	Learners should have access to a computer, tablet or smart phone with an internet connection.
Refresher	It is recommended that this learning should be completed every 3 years

The aim of this learning is to define the term ‘looked after children’ and explore why a child may become looked after. This learning will examine how to report abuse and the responsibilities individuals have in safeguarding children.

Learners will be able to:

Recognise potential indicators of child maltreatment
Examine the different categories and types of child maltreatment
Demonstrate a willingness to listen to children and young people and act on issues and concerns
Explore the relevance of parent, carer and family factors such as physical and mental ill health, domestic abuse and substance and alcohol misuse on the wellbeing and development of a child or young person
Define the term 'Looked After Child'
Explain what to do if you have concerns about child maltreatment
Examine what to do if you don't think your concerns are being taken seriously
Describe the importance of sharing information about a child or young person where there are safeguarding concerns
